Kyokushin japanese vocabulary

Even though Mas Oyama was korean, Kyokushin is a japanese martial art style. Every move, stances, attacks and katas have their japanese name. For example if we want to tell a student to take the cat stance (neko ashi dashi) and have the left (hidari) leg in front we would say hidari neko ashi dashi, hajime! The next step would be to ask the students to perform an action like for example punch to the stomach or plexus, etc...

This page will present the most common words or expressions used in kyokushin.
